Drywood termites are a common culprit of property damage in South Florida, establishing colonies directly within the wood they infest. Detecting these silent invaders can be challenging, often leading to significant damage before they’re noticed. Safeguarding your property against these destructive pests is essential for long-term protection.
Drywood termites make their nests within cellulose-based materials such as lumber, siding, and wooden trim. They require no soil contact and get their moisture from the wood. They also attack floors, furniture, and books. Drywood termites can be more difficult to detect and aren’t typically noticeable until small piles of pellets (their feces) begin to show and pile up.
Drywood termites are social insects that infest dry wood and do not require contact with the soil. Light brown with narrow, oval-shaped bodies, drywood termites typically shed their veiny wings within minutes of landing, leaving them behind as evidence of an infestation.
10 Facts about Drywood Termites
They can live, feed and nest in wood with very low moisture content that is non-decayed.
They do not need soil to live, so they can even infest your favorite wooden furniture and destroy it.
They are found, not only in California, but also along the southern portion of the United States.
The male and female drywood termites work as a pair to drill into their wooden home of choice, seal the opening with a plug, and begin breeding their colony.
The whole colony can include up to 10,000 termites, all from a single pair, and there is no distinctive worker class.
When it’s time to reproduce, also called swarming, nymphs will drill through the wood to get out. When swarming is done, the new holes will be plugged.
Swarming flights typically occur from April through July, but can also take place during other times of the year, especially after a rainfall.
Damage to the wood cuts across the grain of the wood. Large channels are excavated and connected by tunnels.
Drywood termites are tidy. Their chambers and tunnels are kept clean by storing debris in unused chambers or pushed out through tiny openings in the wood.
Their excreta pellets, also call frass, are entirely different from their subterranean cousins. The pellets are hard and comprise of six distinct concave surfaces. The ends are round.

They did the service to eliminate the cockroaches. Before this great company I had a visit from 2 previous companies and the difference was truly abysmal. I think I made the best decision by staying with them, they did an excellent job, in 2 visits I no longer had cockroaches, very professional, I recommend them 100%
