Plan your time out of the home

  • Arrange to be out of the structure for the full fumigation and clearance period.

  • Do not re-enter until the structure is officially cleared and posted for re-occupancy.

Food, Medicine & Personal Items

  • Remove all food, drinks, spices, and pet food from the structure.
  • Remove all medications, vitamins, and dietary supplements.
  • Check refrigerators and freezers to ensure no unapproved items remain.
  • Remove mattresses and pillows unless sealed in airtight, waterproof plastic as approved by your fumigation provider.
  • Failure to remove restricted items may result in treatment delays or additional charges.

Pets, Plants, & Aquariums

  • Remove all pets before tenting begins and do not return until the home is cleared.

  • Remove or relocate indoor and outdoor potted plants as instructed.

  • Aquariums and fish require special handling; follow your fumigator’s instructions well in advance.

Utilities & Appliances

  • Turn off all air conditioning and heating systems prior to tenting.
  • Extinguish all pilot lights, open flames, and ignition sources.
  • Disconnect lamps and appliances with automatic ignition devices.
  • Electricity must remain ON during fumigation.

Interior Preparation

  • Open all cabinets, drawers, and closets at least 4 inches.
  • Open blinds and drapes.
  • Open attic access panels.
  • Leave windows open approximately 5 inches.
  • Remove attic ceiling fans if applicable.

Exterior Preparation

  • Trim branches touching or hanging over the structure or roof.
  • Remove plants and vines within 36 inches of the structure.
  • Water plants and shrubs thoroughly prior to fumigation.
  • Clear mulch, gravel, leaves, and debris 36 inches around the structure.
  • Mow the lawn as low as possible before tenting day.

Outdoor Items & Vehicles

  • Move patio furniture, grills, décor, boats, and vehicles at least 30 feet away from the structure.
  • Empty parking areas near the structure as required.
  • Unlock vehicles located inside garages or under awnings, including trunks.

Access & keys

  • Arrange access for the fumigation crew (keys, lockbox, gate access codes).

  • Make sure all entry points needed for treatment and clearance are accessible.

Vacate the Property

  • All people must vacate the structure during fumigation and clearance.
  • Remove all pets, including birds, reptiles, and fish, prior to tenting.
  • Remove all indoor plants from the structure before fumigation begins.
  • Re-entry is not permitted until the structure has been officially cleared and posted for occupancy.

Home exterior and setup items

Your fumigator may request exterior preparation to ensure the tent can be installed correctly and sealed properly, such as:

  • Pruning branches that touch or hang over the structure

  • Moving exterior items away from the building perimeter

  • Retracting awnings when applicable

Re-entry & Clearance

Re-occupancy is permitted only after the structure has been aerated and tested, and fumigant concentrations are verified at 1 part per million (PPM) or less using approved clearance testing equipment.

Final walkthrough with your fumigation team

Before termite tenting begins, a final walkthrough is completed to confirm that your property is fully prepared and ready for fumigation. This step helps prevent delays, safety issues, or rescheduling on treatment day.

During the final walkthrough, the fumigation team will verify:

  • Your scheduled arrival and tenting timeline

  • That all required preparation steps have been completed, including bagging, removals, and access

  • What to expect during tenting, aeration, and the clearance process

  • When clearance testing will occur and how you will be notified that re-entry is allowed

Completing this final walkthrough ensures the fumigation can proceed safely, efficiently, and without interruption.
